The Perseids Meteor Shower - July 23, 2013
Another meteor shower is almost here! This time it is going to be the Perseids Meteor Shower, and this is when the earth is passing through a trail of dust and fragments from the Coment Swift-Tuttle. What does this mean for you? This means that from today through August 12th that the meteor shower will be getting stronger each day.
A fun fact is that this comet was discovered in 1862 by Lewis Swift and Horace Parnell-Tuttle and only passes earth once every 133 years. Passed earth in 1858, 1992 and the next time it will return will be 2126. This comet leaves its trail of dust and fragments which is how earth gets its annual meteor shower.
During this shower, there can be as many as 50 to 100 meteors an hour. The best time to view these meteors will be during the darkest hours which are in the early morning. This year’s show should be even more jaw dropping then normal because the brightest planets within out solar system will be present. At the peak of the shower on August 12th, Nasa has stated that Venus, Jupiter and the crescent moon will be aligned and be at their brightest.
For many hot tub owners, this is one of their favorite times of year to enjoy a long or late evening/ early morning soak in their hot tub. If you are wanting to experience this in your backyard and want to experience these moments for years to come, please visit our Residential Hot Tubs page.
